If you own a pair of Ray-Ban or Oakley sunglasses and your prescription has changed, you do not have to replace them. Send us the model number off the arm and we glaze genuine prescription lenses — made by Ray-Ban or by Oakley, not a copy — into the frame you already have. Ray-Ban lenses start at £119 a pair, Oakley at £229, including glazing and coatings, dispensed by a GOC-registered dispensing optician and done entirely by post.

This page is the plain version of how it works, for anyone who has never had sunglasses reglazed and wants to know what they are getting into before they start.

Step one: find your model number

It is printed on the inside of one of the arms. On a Ray-Ban it reads RB and four digits — RB3025 — followed by the size. On an Oakley it is OO and four digits — OO9102 — then the size. If the printing has worn off, email us a photo of the frame and we will identify it.

Then check it is on the list. Our prescription lenses page lists every frame we can glaze — 129 Ray-Ban models and 199 Oakley models — and links each one into the right configurator.

Step two: choose the lens

You are only ever shown lenses the brand can make for your frame in your prescription, so there is nothing to get wrong.

Ray-Ban: clear (£119), clear with a blue-light filter (£149), 34 sun tints including G-15 and B-15 (from £139), 26 of them polarised (from £189), and light-reactive in grey, brown or G-15 (£259). Stronger prescriptions move to a thinner lens, from £159.

Oakley: a standard tint (£249), clear (£269), Prizm (£279), polarised (£299), Prizm polarised (£329) and Transitions (£389). Shields such as the Radar EV and Jawbreaker take a prescription insert behind the shield, from £229.

Those are complete prices. The only extra is fitting, and only if you want it: fit the lenses yourself for nothing, or we do it for £10 and send you a Royal Mail label for the frame.

Step three: give us your prescription

Enter it when you order, or choose to send it on later and we will email you for it. It needs to be less than two years old. If you do not have a copy, your optician must give you one on request — it is yours.

For sunglasses you only need the distance prescription. We check every prescription against the frame before anything is ordered; if it cannot be made, we tell you and refund in full.

Step four: wait seven to ten working days

That is from the day the job is placed, which is as soon as your prescription checks out. If you are sending the frame in for fitting, the clock starts when it reaches us. Free UK delivery.

What "genuine" means here

The lenses come from the brand that made your sunglasses. Ray-Ban Authentic lenses are etched with the Ray-Ban logo and are the same tints the frame was sold with. Oakley Authentic Prescription lenses are made in Oakley's own lab, laser-etched with the Oakley O, and keep the frame's warranty. Neither is a third-party lens cut to roughly the right shape, and that is the whole point of doing it this way.

Every order is dispensed by Benjamin Myers, a dispensing optician registered with the General Optical Council.

Things we are honest about

  • Single vision only at the moment, for both brands. Varifocals are coming; email us if you need one now and we will quote you directly.
  • Power limits vary by frame — roughly −6.00 to +6.00 on most, with cylinders to 4.00 (Ray-Ban) or 3.00 (Oakley). The configurator applies the real limits for your frame.
  • A frame that is not sound — a hinge that has gone, an arm that has stretched — is better repaired first. We do that too: Ray-Ban repair, Oakley repair.
  • Prescription-cut lenses cannot be resold, so they sit outside the change-of-mind return. Your Consumer Rights Act rights are unaffected.
