Yes, you can have Prizm with your prescription in it. Oakley make Authentic Prescription lenses for 199 of their sunglasses, and we glaze them into the frame you already own: a pair of Prizm lenses is £279, Prizm polarised £329, a standard tint £249, clear £269 and Transitions £389, all including the glazing and the coatings. Shields such as the Radar EV and Jawbreaker take a prescription insert from £229.

If you have talked yourself out of this because the frame wraps, or because you assumed the lens would be a copy, this page is for you.

Which Oakleys

199 models at the time of writing: Holbrook and its whole family (XL, XXL, Metal, TI), Frogskins, Gascan, Sutro, Sylas, Gibston, Mainlink, Latch, Portal, Twoface, Whisker, Plazma, Crosshair, the Flak 2.0 sizes, Radar EV Path and Pitch, Jawbreaker, and a long run of discontinued frames Oakley still glaze for. The full list is on our prescription lenses page.

The model number is printed inside one arm: OO, four digits, then the size — OO9102-55 is a 55mm Holbrook. Type the number or just the name into the frame box on the Oakley prescription lenses page.

What it costs

Lens Price per pair
Prescription insert for a shield (Radar EV, Jawbreaker, M2 Frame XL) from £229
Standard tint — grey, black iridium, bronze, sapphire iridium £249
Clear £269
Prizm £279
Standard tint, polarised £299
Prizm, polarised £329
Transitions £389
Sutro, Sutro Lite, Sutro Lite Sweep — clear Shield Fusion £389

Every price covers the lenses, the glazing and the coatings. Plutonite blocks 100% of UVA and UVB by itself, not through a coating that can wear off, and Oakley Stealth anti-reflective is on both surfaces as standard — the Sutro family's Shield Fusion lens is the one exception, which is hard-coated but not anti-reflective. A strong prescription on a wrapped frame needs Oakley's high-prescription glazing and adds £20; you are told that before you pay, not after.

Fitting is the only other thing. Fit the lenses yourself for nothing, or we fit them for £10 and email you a Royal Mail label for the frame.

Which Prizm

Prizm is not a tint name. It is a lens that filters specific wavelengths to lift the contrast that matters in one setting. Prizm Road pulls detail out of tarmac. Prizm Golf separates grass from everything that is not grass. Prizm Trail is for the rough stuff, Prizm Deep Water for looking into water rather than at it.

All of it is available with your prescription: Prizm Black, Grey, Sapphire, Jade, Ruby, Tungsten, Rose Gold, 24K and Violet for everyday wear; Road, Road Black, Road Jade, Trail, Trail Torch, Field, Golf, Dark Golf, Low Light, Deep Water and the Snow range for one job in particular. Most come polarised too. The configurator only shows you lenses Oakley can make for your frame in your power, so anything you can select, we can make.

Shields are different, and it is worth knowing why

A one-piece shield — Radar EV Path, Radar EV Pitch, Jawbreaker, M2 Frame XL — cannot have your prescription ground into the shield itself. The curve is too steep to hold an accurate prescription across that span. What Oakley make instead is a prescription insert: a small carrier that sits behind the shield with your lenses in it. You keep the shield and the field of view; the prescription sits where it can be made accurately. Grey, black iridium or clear, from £229.

Sutro, Sutro Lite and Sutro Lite Sweep are the other special case: Oakley make exactly one prescription lens for them, a clear Shield Fusion shield cut to the frame's one-piece shape, at £389.

The limits

  • Single vision only for now. Oakley make varifocals, including sport-specific ones for golf and cycling, and we will add them — email us for a quote in the meantime. Oakley do not make bifocals.
  • Power range depends on the frame. A flat frame takes more than a steeply wrapped one; that is optics, not policy. Cylinders go to 3.00 on a two-lens frame and 2.00 on a shield insert. The configurator never shows a lens that cannot be made for your prescription in your frame.
  • Prescription-cut lenses cannot be resold, so they sit outside the change-of-mind return. Consumer Rights Act rights are unaffected; a job that cannot be made is refunded in full.

Dispensed by an optician, by post

Every order is checked by Benjamin Myers, a dispensing optician registered with the General Optical Council, against your exact frame and power before the job goes to Oakley. Seven to ten working days from that point; if you are sending the frame in for fitting, the clock starts when it reaches us. Anywhere in the UK, free delivery.
